SMILE 笑ってごらん

2月14日バレンタインデーに最もふさわしいロマンチックなものとして、私はアート・ガーファンクルコンサートを選びました。60～70年代に抒情詩的な歌詞と甘いボーカルで世界的な旋風を巻き起こした‘サイモン & ガーファンクル’のガーファンクルだけによる国内初公演です。

ほぼ半世紀が過ぎ、アート・ガーファンクルの声帯結節も回復したとはいうものの、高音がうまく出ずに少し苦しそうで、高いチケット代が頭の片隅をよぎりましたが、あの時代の雰囲気と追憶を思い出すことができました。

彼のオリジナルである映画‘卒業’のMrs Robinson、Bridge over troubled water、The boxer、Sound of silence 等は正直期待以下でしたが、彼の息子アート・ジュニアが登場して親子でデュエットした‘Let it be me’と、息子がソロで歌った‘Smile’は、その女性的なトーンのソフトタッチの音色がとても素晴らしかったです。

本当によい歌詞に魅力的な曲と魅惑的な音色が合わさりとても甘美でした。30余年間詩を書いているという彼は、自作詩2首を朗読しもしました。

私が聞いたアート・ガーファンクル親子のヴァージョンではありませんが、バレンタインデーに私を幸せにしてくれたこの二つの歌をここに載せておきます。

ナット・キング・コールとエヴァリー・ブラザースの音色も依然として魅惑的です。

そうです。

私たちに今必要なのは、明るい‘スマイル’と‘あなたを何としても見つけ出すこと’です。
